OREANDA-NEWS. Lack of water for irrigation purpose affects the agricultural productivity leading to livelihood issues for farmers devoid of irrigation facilities in rural areas. To add to their woes, lack of proper irrigation mechanism leads to inefficient usage of available water for farming purposes.

To address water crisis in rural areas, Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) has set up a lift irrigation system at Chapra village of Rajnagar block in Seraikela-Kharsawan district. The lift irrigation system will draw water from Kharkai river and cover agriculture area of nearly 30 acres of agriculture land. Nearly 65 households of Chapra village will benefit from the lift irrigation facility.

In another effort to address the problem of access to potable water which is increasingly getting difficult, particularly for the scores of village communities in Jharkhand, Tata Steel Rural Development Society has installed water extraction facility along with overhead tank in Pagda village of Boram block in East Singhbhum district. More than 30 households of Pagda village will benefit from this facility.

Mr. Biren Bhuta, Chief, Corporate Sustainability Services, Tata Steel yesterday dedicated the lift irrigation facilities and deep bore well facility to the residents of Chapra and Pagda village respectively.

Respective Zilla paarshads, Mukhiyas, Ward Members, Mahila Samities and villagers attended the inauguration.
