OREANDA-NEWS. June 17, 2013. Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov has held a meeting on the activities of the corporation "Kazakhmys" as part of the meetings with the leaders of the backbone enterprises of the country.

The meeting was attended by heads of central and local government bodies, national companies.

Chairman of the Board of Kazakhmys Corporation Eduard Ogay delivered report on the main activities of the corporation and its development prospects.

Taking into account that the corporation is a backbone enterprise of Zhezkazgan and Balkhash regions, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of compliance with its social obligations.

At the same time, the Prime Minister urged "not to consider government support as charity care."
"The government provides support if it sees the real contribution of the corporation to addressing socially important issues in the region. And this is important," Akhmetov said.

Following the discussion, the Prime Minister instructed the concerned state agencies to establish a working group chaired by Deputy Prime Minister B.Sagintayev "to identify promising areas for diversification, deepening of the program of single-industry towns, and for overall regional issues."
