Wizz Air Opens Flights to Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. Wizz Air, the largest low-fare, low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, announced today two new services from Moldova’s capital Chisinau to Rome and Venice commencing on 24 September. Both routes will initially operate twice weekly and are the first Moldovan low fare routes offered.
Moldova’s air traffic market has been growing steadily and will hugely benefit of stimulation by low air fares to attract more passengers. Moldova trades primarily with Western Europe where also many Moldovan citizens work. The access to low cost air travel between Moldova and Western Europe will be welcomed by tourists, business travelers and the Moldovan Diaspora.
Flights on Wizz Air’s new routes from Chisinau to Rome Ciampino and Venice Treviso are already on sale and can be booked immediately on wizzair.com with incredible fares starting from just € 19,99 (one way, taxes included).
Speaking at a press conference in Brussels today, Gyorgy Abran, Chief Commercial Officer, said: "Wizz Air is delighted to welcome Moldova in the growing list of countries that benefit of our incredible low fares. The EU Open Skies agreement results in consumer friendly competition and we welcome that Moldova joined Europe’s Common Aviation Area, which eventually will lead to passenger traffic and tourism growth. Wizz Air is committed to deliver low fares to Moldovan people and their visitors and we expect to carry over 60,000 passengers on our two routes between Chisinau and Italy. Individual travelers as well as families and businesses will welcome this exciting development and contribute to job creation and tourism development in Moldova.”
On a visit to Brussels, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Mr Iurie Leanca, said: "Last year in June, Moldova and the EU signed the agreement on the access to the European Common Aviation Area. It is a symbolic moment that today in Brussels, Wizz Air, one of the leading European low-cost airlines, announces the opening of the first flights from Chisinau to Rome and Venice. It is certainly good news for our community living in Italy.
I would like to congratulate Wizz Air for this important step and hope to welcome more Wizz Air routes from Chisinau in the nearest future. I hope that the next one would be to Brussels."
