Remittances from Aboard for Individuals Grew 14,3% in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2013. In January-April, 2013 remittances from aboard in favour in individuals made via banks grew 14.3% to USD455.66 million.
In April, they made up USD 135.21 million, which is a record sum since the beginning of this year, NBM of Moldova informs. The indicator of last April - USD 109.86 million – was exceeded 23.1%. In January-April 2013, the structure of remittances in forex included the 33.2% share of remittances in USD, 36.7% of remittances in EUR and the 30.1% share of remittances in RUB.
Last April these indicators made up 40.5%, 37.9% and 21.6% of the total amount of the remittances respectively. Remittances via rapid money transfer systems made up USD 400.85 million in January-April, 2013 against USD 350.1 million or 87.8% recorded in the same period of the last year.
In 2012, remittances from aboard in favour in individuals made via banks amounted to USD 1 billion 494.23 million, 3.5% up within the year. The greatest amount of the remittances was transferred in October and made up USD 152.73 million the smallest one falling on January and being USD 81.9 million.
The biggest receipts to Moldova come from Russia and Italy, NBM reports. According to the World Bank, remittances from Moldova’s labour migrants amount to 20% to 30% of GDP of Moldova. The all-time peak of money transfers to Moldova made in favour of individuals via commercial banks was recorded in 2008, when the sum amounted to USD 1 billion 660.09million within the year.
