OREANDA-NEWS. The enterprises of the United Metallurgical Company (OMK CJSC, Moscow) have participated in the Zero Impact on the Environment All-Russian ecological campaign initiated by Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment.

The Ministry asked Russian industrial enterprises to stop activities which have a negative impact on the environment for two hours and clean the territories and plant trees, shrubs and flowers there. The campaign has been held within the Year of Environmental Protection announced in Russia and dedicated to the Day of Ecologists and the World Environment Day celebrated today.

All OMK plants supported this campaign. Managers and employees of the Vyksa Steel Works and Rolling and Casting Complex in Vyksa, Trubodetal (Chelyabinsk), Almetyevsk Pipe Plant (Tatarstan) and Blagoveshchensk Valve Plant (Bashkortostan) cleaned and cared for the plants’ areas and lawns and planted trees and flowers from 9 to 11 a.m.

All the participants of the campaign said that joint activities in the open air and communication with colleagues had given them an energy and optimism boost. Participation in the Zero Impact on the Environment campaign turned out to be a good occasion to practically demonstrate solidarity and commitment of OMK’s managers and employees in saving the environment and preserving natural resources.

OMK makes considerable efforts to reduce the impact that plants have on the environment. In 2012, the company allocated over 224 mln. rubles on occupational safety and health and environmental protection; over 87 mln. rubles of the sum were spent on ecologically-related issues. All investment projects implemented by the company comply with the highest environment standards.
