Cooperation between FAS and IBA Becomes Closer
OREANDA-NEWS. June 07, 2013. “Although we live in a globalized word, managing legal risks remains an issue in the national law. That’s why cooperation between lawyers from different jurisdictions is of such a colossal importance.
To provide maximum professional support and exercise legal reforms in order to legal confidence, we will closely cooperate with the government bodies, an example of which is our cooperation with FAS Russia”, said the President of the International Bar Association (IBA), Michael Reynolds, speaking at the 3rd International Bar Forum.
To determine the main areas of expanding cooperation between FAS and IBA, at the Forum Mr. Reynolds had a meeting with the Head of FAS, Igor Artemiev. The Head of FAS emphasized the interest of the antimonopoly body in organizing and hosting joint events. He also thanked Mr. Reynolds for the invitation to take part in IBA events.
In this connection Igor Artemiev proposed an initiative to host an IBA Biannual Competition Conference in 2015 in St Petersburg.
Discussing FAS priorities, Mr. Artemiev separately emphasized anti-cartel efforts, especially the most dangerous cross-border cartel. He put forward an idea to strengthen international cooperation against cartels, stressing the importance of creating an international organization similar to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), which would assist national competition authorities in investigating international cartels.
Considerable attention was paid to developing cooperation under BRICS format. The International Bar Association has already organized several sessions at IBA Conferences, when the Heads of BRICS competition authorities addressed the world legal community on the most interesting aspects of developing the antimonopoly law. Also IBA supported a recent publication of “Competition Law in the BRICS Countries”.
Overall, the parties decided to continue intensive cooperation between FAS and the International Bar Association in line with new forms and possibilities.
