OREANDA-NEWS. Over the last 10 years the consumption of petrol in Azerbaijan tripled up to 1.38 million tons for 2012.

At Caspian Oil & Gas conference SOCAR vice-president for processing David Mammadov has stated that only for 4 months of this year, growth in consumption of petrol reached 14%.

"Given such growth rate, SOCAR has decided to increase capacity of some plants that will allow us to cope with providing the internal market with fuel until 2020-21. As for the quality of the fuel produced by local refineries, the production on EURO 5 standard is not yet possible. Currently produced diesel fuel in Azerbaijan does not conform to EURO 3 standard. As for production of petroleum products (motor petrol and diesel fuel) on standard EURO 4, then their production will be carried out as much as possible," Mammadov said.
