MPX's TPP Pecem II Is Synchronized with Interconnected National System
OREANDA-NEWS. MPX Energia announced that, on June 2, 2013, the Thermoelectric Power Plant Pecem II, with installed capacity of 360 MW, made its first synchronization with the National Interconnected System (SIN). The enterprise is located in the Pecem Industrial and Port Complex (CIPP), in the city of Sao Goncalo do Amarante, in the state of Ceara. A coal fueled power plant, UTE Pecem II is wholly owned by MPX.
With the synchronization, the plant now supplies energy to the Interconnected National System in test stage, this being the final stage for approval of the Commercial Operation Declaration by the National Agency for Electrical Energy (Aneel).
UTE Pecem II is the second MPX endeavor in the region of the CIPP. The first is Energia Pecem, a 50-50 partnership between MPX and EDP, which is already in commercial operation, with an installed capacity of 720 MW. Together, the Pecem thermal power plants have generated around 20,000 job opportunities throughout the years of construction works.
MPX currently has five endeavors in operation, with a total installed capacity of 1,780 MW, contributing to the energy safety of Brazil. The company also has a portfolio of 10.000 MW in projects which have already been licensed.
MPX Energia S.A. is a company with diversified energy projects and complementary businesses in electrical generation and exploration and production of natural gas in South America. The Company has a wide portfolio of thermal generation endeavors, which positions it strategically to become a leader in the private energy sector. MPX’s generating plants will also be the biggest consumers of the natural gas produced in the Company’s terrestrial blocks, which have estimated resources of more than 11 Tcf.
