OREANDA-NEWS. June 05, 2013. In the framework of a working visit of Minister of Environment and Nature Resources of Ukraine Oleh Proskuryakov to Japan, a Ukraine’s delegation attended Fukushima-1 nuclear power station and held negotiations with leaders of TEPCO company-operator to discuss issues of interaction of consequences of nuclear accidents and security in the nuclear power energy area.

Notably, there were discussed cooperation in response to emergency situations on nuclear power stations, functioning of the evacuation zone and strategy of protection of the population; deactivation; monitoring; management of risks; cooperation in scientific center. 

The head of the Ministry of Environment and Nature Resources of Ukraine emphasized on the need to transfer to the practical plane already determined priorities of interaction between Ukraine and Japan, elaboration of joint programs and projects. Oleh Proskuryakov stressed that key directions in the joint work appear lines of improvement of support systems in the process of adoption of decisions in emergency situations of radiologic character on the basis of Chornobyl and Fukushima experience; adaptation to Fukushima conditions of countermeasures in agriculture elaborated for contaminated Chornobyl territories; social and psychological monitoring and rehabilitation of the population, who underwent impact of nuclear accidents. The Japanese party also underlined significance to improve radiological education and to provide target groups and population with radiological information.

During the meeting leaders of the TEPCO informed about intensive interaction in study and use of Ukrainian experience in overcoming after-effects of the Chornobyl accident – cooperation along Fukushima-Chornobyl line. Taking into account the present complicated situation in Japan this new cooperation line between the two states is becoming the most significant and promising in two-way relations for the nearest years.
