OREANDA-NEWS. At the Severstal and the Construction Industry conference held in Saint Petersburg on May 30, OAO Severstal, one of the world’s leading steel and steel-related mining companies, presented its new brand of products called Steel Silk.

Dmitry Goroshkov, Director of Sales and Marketing at Severstal’s Russian Steel Division, commented: “Effective product branding helps to translate to customers what differentiates our products from our competitors’. Behind the branding it’s key that the products offer a particular competitive advantage that is demanded by our customers and designed specifically to meet their needs.”

Steel Silk is a galvanized, polymer-coated rolled metal product that has been specifically developed for the manufacture of roofing materials (metal shingles). Steel Silk was designed in close partnership with architects and structural engineers to create an optimal roofing material.

A durability guarantee is a major distinguishing feature of the new product. Independent tests have confirmed that Steel Silk's products maintain their aesthetic properties and resist signs of corrosion throughout their service lives of 10, 15 and 25 years respectively.

Severstal offers several types of Steel Silk. Steel Silk Classic is the product of choice for areas of normal humidity and moderate solar activity such as central Russia. Steel Silk WP (Water Protection) is optimal for regions with higher humidity, which generally means coastal territories or regions with a higher level of precipitation. Metal shingles made of Steel Silk SP (Sun Protection) are critical in areas with high levels of sun light. Steel Silk DP (Double Protection) has been specifically designed for areas where humidity is high and where there are high levels of sun light, such as the coastal region of the Russian South.

The new products’ coloring matches natural roofing tiles that are most popular in Western Europe.

Steel Silk fully complies with Russian and European standards. The new products are environmentally safe and fire resistant.

Severstal has already shipped Steel Silk products to a number of its partners producing metal shingles and the feedback received has been very positive.
