Glonass-M Spacecraft Makes Its Way to Baikonur
OREANDA-NEWS. Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems delivered one more Glonass-M navigation satellite to the Baikonur launch site.
The Glonass-M №49 spacecraft is slated to launch in July together with another two satellites of this series. Pre-launch activities and preparations at the cosmodrome are starting soon.
The upcoming launch will become an important step in making progress within the scope of the Federal Target Program “Maintenance, development and utilization of the GLONASS system”. In April the navigation satellite Glonass-M №47 was successfully launched into orbit from the Plesetsk cosmodrome.
As of today, the Russian orbital constellation numbers 24 navigation spacecraft which carry out their designated mission, thus ensuring global coverage 24 hours a day regardless of weather conditions and time of year. Apart from 4 in-orbit spares, the system includes the next-generation Glonass-K spacecraft which is currently undergoing in-orbit testing. All these navigation satellites were designed, developed and built by ISS-Reshetnev.
