OREANDA-NEWS. May 30, 2013. A successor to Head of the IMF Mission to Moldova Nikolay Gueorguiev is going to be introduced during the visit, IMF permanent representative in Moldova Tokhir Mirzoev told to chief editors of Moldovan mass media this.

If a new Cabinet is accepted by the time when the mission arrives, talks on a new IMF program for Moldova will start. If it is not, the mission will hold a technical dialogue. The previous, three-year-long IMF program for Moldova was approved on January, 29, 2010 and completed at the end of April, 2013, InfoMarket reported. When reviewing results of its implementation, Tokhir Mirzoev pointed out some plus points, such as making the state budget more sustainable, achieving macro-economic stability and a low inflation rate.

According to Tokhir Mirzoev this may underlie more profound reforms. However, some points of the program remained incomplete. IMF sets it as its goal to help Moldova to achieve stability but not cut costs, as it is sometimes said, Tokhir Mirzoev said. He added that it is essential for Moldova to learn to live within its means for its budget to become sustainable.

According to the IMF permanent representative, the preliminary discussion of the new memorandum with the previous government did not make any provisions for new loans for Moldova, although technical assistance on the part of IMF was stipulated.

As he noted, when gaining the experience in having IMF financing-free programs, governments learnt to stick to the course of sustainable development and this was made use of by Poland and Romania.
