OREANDA-NEWS. May 24, 2013. Cargo carriers of all kinds were transported 894.6 thousand tons in April, 2013; 2.7% up as compared with March, 2013 and 28.2% up as compared with April, 2012. In general, the volume of cargo transportation grew 25.9% to 1 million 278.3 thousand tons in January-April, 2013.

The biggest share of all cargoes loaded at railway stations of Moldova fell on crops and flour production and made up 34.3% in January-April, 2013 against 26.5% in April, 2012; it was followed by ferrous metal and scrap (22.6% against 24.7%) and building materials and cement (7.5% against 16.1%). In January-April, 2013 cargo transported by motor transport grew 23.4% to1 million 463.6 thousand tons.

The biggest amounts of cargo were transported by companies from Chisinau and Balti (54.5% and 9.3% respectively) and by carriers from regions of Nisporeni (7.8%), Ialoveni (4.7%), Orhei (3%), Anenii Noi (2.6%), Taraclia (2.3%), Straseni (2.3%), Floresti (1.9%), Soroca (1.7%), Hincesti (1.4%), Rezina (1.4%), Edinet (1.3%), and Gagauzia (1.1%).

In January-April, 2013 river cargo transportation grew 12.4% to 24.5 thousand tons, air cargo transportation declining 26.8% to 0.4 thousand tons.
