OREANDA-NEWS. EBRD President Sir Suma Chakrabarti is visiting Kazakhstan on 21-23 May.

In Astana on 22 May he will co-chair the opening of the plenary session of the Foreign Investment Council (FIC) with the President, Nursultan Nazarbayev, with whom he will also have a bilateral meeting. The EBRD President will also meet with top representatives of the government, including the Prime Minister.

They will discuss innovation and the knowledge economy, the “green” economy and the need for further diversification of the economy in Kazakhstan.

At a media briefing on 21 May in Astana, prior to FIC, the President will talk about the global economic climate, the EBRD’s investments in Kazakhstan and Central Asia and the importance of innovating for growth.   

After Astana, the President will travel to Almaty where he will speak at an event marking the 20th anniversary of the start of the EBRD’s operations in Kazakhstan.

Since the beginning of its operations in Kazakhstan 20 years ago, the EBRD has invested close to US\\$ 6.3 billion in the country’s economy, with more than half of the projects supporting the private sector (including energy, industry and agriculture and the financial sector), and about 40 per cent supporting infrastructure.
