OREANDA-NEWS. May 22, 2013. Since 2000 Demir Bank is an active participant of different programs of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. And the 1’th of May, Demir Bank joins new EBRD Financing Facility for residential and commercial energy efficiency Projects in Kyrgyzstan.

In frame of this new project, Demir Bank provides loans and grants supporting energy efficiency investments to households and business in Kyrgyzstan.

On the 25th of April 2013, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) officially launched the Kyrgyz Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (KyrSEFF) in the presence of Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister Jantoro Satybaldiev, who gave the opening address to the congregation attending the event.

Demir Bank is one of the first private financing institutions to join KyrSEFF with an initial USD 3 million credit. The loan is extended under the Kyrgyz Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (KyrSEFF), a USD 20 million credit line for investments in sustainable energy projects and will enable Demirbank to provide long-term funding to clients implementing residential or commercial energy saving projects.

Announcing the investment, Mike Taylor, Director, Financial Institutions at the EBRD, said: “Reducing the energy intensity of economies is one of the EBRD’s key priorities and we are pleased to build on our successful cooperation with Demir Bank to help people and businesses in Kyrgyzstan reap the many benefits from sustainable energy investments.”

Energy efficiency home improvements financed under KyrSEFF include the installation of energy efficient windows, the insulation of walls, roofs and floors, and the use of efficient boilers, biomass-fuelled room heaters, solar water systems, heat pump systems and other measures. Any Kyrgyz house owner or association of home owners, ESCO, developer or facility management company that takes a loan under KyrSEFF is entitled to receive a grant of 20 per cent, or even up to 35 per cent of the loan amount, towards the cost of the energy saving project, once it has been completed and subject to KyrSEFF's terms and conditions.

Energy efficiency and renewable energy investments in the commercial sector under KyrSEFF include new production machinery, energy savings measures in the production process and those relating to the company buildings and facilities. To help companies identify the most suitable energy saving projects and to the most suitable solution, they can draw on the assistance of a team of international and local KyrSEFF engineers. Financed by the EU’s Central Asia Investment Facility (IFCA), this assistance is entirely free-of-charge to the company. For commercial projects that are completed in accordance with the KyrSEFF terms and conditions, companies are entitled to receive a grant of up to 20 per cent of the loan amount.
