OREANDA-NEWS. May 21, 2013. The budget of Strategy for development of agriculture and rural areas of Moldova 2014-2020 amounts to MDL 12.7 billion. When presenting the draft strategy, Acting Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov said the Strategy was developed with help of international experts.

The draft is still to be improved, the Minister said. Implementation of the strategy is going to be invested in 57.3% from the state budget, with the rest of the funds (about MDL 5.4 billion) to be provided by PEVADR and other donors. In particular, PEVADR is going to allot for the implementation EUR 280 million in 2014-2020, disbursing EUR 40 million a year. Millennium Challenge Corporation is expected to provide USD60 million.

Besides, additional funds will be available under the World Bank Competitive Agriculture project. The bulk of the expenditures, or MDL 9.4 billion, are going to be spent on interventions; MDL 3.3 billion will be allotted for the Agriculture Ministry and its lower organizations’ maintenance expenditures.

The strategy is based on three key priorities, namely strengthening of competitiveness of the agricultural sector of Moldova through modernization and integration of the market; ensuring of natural resources sustainable management and enhancement of living standards in rural areas of Moldova. The first area is going to be allotted for 63% of the budget, the second and the third being spent on 21% and 16% respectively.

Measures to be taken to reach the first goal will be covered mostly by the Subvention Fund, which is equal to MDL 400 million now and is expected to amount to MDL 750 million by 2020.
