Ukraine: New Law on Employment Contributes Unemployment Reduction
OREANDA-NEWS. May 21, 2013. From the beginning of the year, employment centers find work for almost 160 thousand registered unemployed. This was started by the Director of the Department of Labour and Employment of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine Maryna Lazebna.
She noted that the introduction of effective mechanisms for raising employment can gradually reduce the unemployment rate in Ukraine. In particular, the State Employment Service cooperates with employers to provide vocational training for the unemployed under their orders.
"So, from the beginning of the year, we have provided training for 105.7 thousand unemployed. This caused an increase of their employment is in March and April. Overall, for four months, 159.3 thousand of registered unemployed persons find a job in such manner," she said.
In addition, Marina Lazebna predicts that this positive trend in the labor market can be saved through the implementation of new tools provided by the Law of Ukraine "On Employment", which came into force in January of this year.
"The new law provides a number of mechanisms that primarily contribute to the employment of non-competitive persons at the labor market. These are citizens of retirement age, young professionals, and other categories, who is more difficult for others to find work to. So today there is a reason to talk about maintaining positive trends in this area," she said.
Marina Lazebna also informed that the seasonal factor also contributes to reduction of unemployment, whereby the demand for workers of certain industries grows. These are construction workers, waiters and agricultural workers.
According to the State Statistics Service, the registered unemployment rate in April 2013 decreased by 0.1 percentage point and amounted to 1.9% (March 2013 - 2.0%).
Number of registered unemployed as of March 1, 2013 amounted to 589.1 thousand as of April 1 - 571.6 thousand people, and on May 1 - 534.7 thousand people.
