OREANDA-NEWS. May 21, 2013. Sakhalin Energy invited public communities to the official presentation of its 2012 sustainable development report in Moscow.

There were representatives of the scientific and expert communities, federal and Sakhalin authorities (both legislative and executive), business and indigenous people, NGOs and media at the event.

It is the fourth sustainable development report of the company prepared to the GRI standards.

For preparation of the report, Sakhalin Energy held two rounds of public consultations, the advice and recommendations from which were incorporated in the report.

The report covers all aspects of Sakhalin Energy’s sustainable development performance: personnel development, stakeholder engagement, environmental safety and biodiversity conservation, contribution to the region’s sustainable development, etc.

The guests at the presentation focused most of their attention on the company’s financial performance. Sakhalin Energy reported USD 1,813.6 million total payments to the Russian budgets of all levels in 2012, which is nearly 60% (by USD 671 million) higher than in 2011. The 2012 payments to the Russian Federation accounted for more than one fourth of total payments from the project for 18 years of the Sakhalin-2 project life (from 1995 to 2012).

The presentation of the report was preceded by a public endorsement process at the highest applicable professional level in the Russian Federation — independent expert review by the Non-Financial Reporting Council of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE). The primary focus of the public endorsement is to ensure the materiality and completeness of the information on the company performance disclos
ed in the sustainable development report according to the best responsible business practices.
