Total Honored with OTC Distinguished Award
OREANDA-NEWS. The last time Total was honored with the OTC Distinguished Award was ten years ago, in 2003 for Girassol, one of our first important deep offshore projects, also an Angolan project. That Award recognized Total’s entry into its deep offshore adventure in West Africa, and the innovative implementation solutions that Girassol had required.
Ten years after Girassol, this second award for Pazflor recognizes Total’s deep offshore expertise, which has been developed and demonstrated on several projects around the world throughout the decade.
The deep offshore is now one of our 4 main growth sector and is an essential part of the E&P strategy.
Pazflor project
The PAZFLOR project strategy was based on a fully empowered, multi-disciplined and integrated project management team, mostly located at contractor premises or on sites and in charge of all activities from Geosciences to Field Operations.
Pazflor was a bold project for Total, with significant challenges, including:
- technological challenges with a subsea gas/liquids separation system – a world first – to economically produce two different types of oil from three Miocene reservoirs and one Oligocene reservoir;
- In terms of development, Pazflor project was a major management challenge with a 600 km2 development area; the construction of the biggest FPSO in the world; 32 million man-hours required to complete the work, with up to 4,500 employees working worldwide; strict HSE, schedule, budget and quality constraints.
The Pazflor project is also a fine example of IOC/NOC collaboration and contributed significantly to the development of the local workforce, which helped install and maintain oil and gas expertise in the country.
The Pazflor project was completed within budget and production started up ahead of schedule in August 2011.
