OREANDA-NEWS. May 20, 2013. In June auxiliary rock shaft No.1 (ARS-1) is to be commissioned at the Skalistaya mine of the Komsomolsky mine in Norilsk. Currently, the final stage of start-up operations for cage hoists produced by the German company SIEMAG is in place.

The largest Russian high grade and cupreous ore mining project is implemented at the Skalistaya mine of the Komsomolsky mine of the Polar Division. The construction is under way, including both mining openings for ore reserves development and surface infrastructure to ensure operation of the mine. All construction works are scheduled for completion in 2019. After commissioning the mine is to produce about 2,400 thousand t of ore p.a.

ARS-1 shaft has two cages installed with  90 people capacity (large cage) and 60 people (small cage). The other main function of the shaft is to descend process materials and equipment. The shaft is supplied with utilities (energy supply for underground consumers, communication cables) and piping (compressed air and water drainage pipelines).

According to Andrey Davydov, Deputy Head of the Directorate for the development of the Skalisty mine of the Company’s Polar Division, "ARS-1 reconstruction lasted several years. Commissioning of the 1,160 m deep shaft will ensure the descent of Komsomolsky mine employees as well as contractors’ employees to the levels of the Skalistaya mine. Currently the staff is transported via auxiliary skip shaft No.1. Thus, the next phase of the mine construction is to be completed”.

The commissioning of ARS-1 shaft in "descent-ascent" mode for people and materials is scheduled for the first ten days of June, 2013.
