OREANDA-NEWS. May 13, 2013. In Rome (Italy) the Minister of agrarian policy and food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk held a meeting with the Director General of the Food and agriculture organization of the United Nations (FAO) Jose Graziano da Silva.

During the meeting the sides have positively assessed the current level of efficiency of joint work of Ukraine and the FAO, and discussed the possibilities of further deepening of such cooperation.

In particular, they reached an agreement on activation of participation of Ukraine in the work of Agricultural Market Information System of the FAO, which is today the basis for a timely and adequate response of the Organization on the fluctuations of world prices on agricultural products.

It is also planned that in the nearest future the representatives of AMIS to visit Ukraine to study the feasibility of a rapid exchange of data with the monitoring center of the Ministry. Also the issue of a visiting meeting of AMIS in Ukraine and Ukraine's chairmanship of AMIS in one of the future biennia is considering.

During the meeting Mykola Prysyazhnyuk expressed his initiative on creation in Ukraine of national grain reserves under the auspices of the world food programme and FAO.

In turn Jose Graziano da Silva described such proposals as actual and noted that it will give an opportunity to more quickly respond to the urgent need for food in the countries of the world, but also to counteract the sharp fluctuations of prices and speculation, caused by natural disaster.
