OREANDA-NEWS. May 08, 2013. There is a tender announced in Romania to construct a gas pipeline from Iasi to Ungheni to export the natural gas from Moldova to Romania.

The tender, announced on 25th of April by the National Agency on Minerals, means the construction of gas pipeline from Iasi to Ungheni amounting to EUR 10 million, VAT included. The gas pipeline from Iasi to Ungheni is one of the largest power infrastructure projects in Moldova and is a key-element in authorities’ strategy to decrease 100 percent dependence of country on natural gas import from Russia.

The project will be funded by the Euro Commission and partially by the EU in the scopes of common operational program Romania-Ukraine-Moldova. The length of the gas pipeline on the territory of Romania is expected to be 32.2 km. The winner will be chosen by the result of the open tender. The one of the most important criterion is price.

The deadline to submit the documents is May, 31, 2013. It is worth mentioning that Moldova with Romania proclaimed earlier that the works on main reversible gas pipeline will be over by the end of 2013. This gas pipeline is aimed to bridge gas transmission systems of two countries to strengthen the power safety and diversify the sources and routes of natural gas supply.

The total length of gas pipeline from Iasi to Ungheni will be 43.2 km. The total cost of construction works will amount EUR 19 million. The maximum amount of gas transportation by means of gas pipeline will equal to 1.5 billion cubic meters per year.
