OREANDA-NEWS. May 07, 2013. Ukrainian delegation at a Meeting of Eastern Europe, Northern and Central Asia UN Group of Experts on Geographical Names in Yalta presents a new cartographic materials, copies of regulatory and reference books on place names. The event was attended by experts from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and Ukraine.

Director of topographic and geodetic and cartographic activities department of the State Agency of Land Resources of Ukraine, head of the Ukrainian delegation Ivan Zaets told in detail to foreign colleagues on national geoportal "State Geodetic Network of Ukraine", "Directory of administrative-territorial structure of Ukraine" and "Public cadastral map of Ukraine" and informed on the status of work on the creation of the State Register of Geographical Names.

Issues regarding the development of the legal framework, the prospects of development work on the creation of national databases (catalogs, registers) geographical names, directories, dictionaries, geographical names, etc. romanization systems implementation were also discussed at the meeting. Considerable interest has caused all the participants of domestic manufacturers - SSPE "Cartography".

Holding in Ukraine Meeting of Eastern Europe, Northern and Central Asia UN Group of Experts on Geographical Names will solve issues of national and International Standardization of Geographical Names.

The proposed by Ukraine variant of electronic map was recommended for consideration regarding the possibility of its use by the working group in developing maps of political and administrative structure of their countries.
