Hefei Xinqiao Airport Opens on May 30
OREANDA-NEWS. The old airport in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province, will see the last travel peak in the upcoming May Day holiday before a new one takes its place.
The Luogang Airport is predicted to handle more than 40,000 passengers between April 29 to May 1, an airport source said.
Changsha, Xi'an, Xiamen, Kunming, Sanya and Haikou will be among the most popular destinations, the source said, judging from the current air ticket bookings.
Passengers can still get generous discounts, as the airport is set to launch plenty of flights to cope with the travel rush. Trips from Hefei to Shanghai and Kunming will be 60 percent off, according to the staff member.
After 36 years' operation, the airport will close on May 29, due to limited capacity. "The life of the Luogang airport is scheduled to end with a flight (MU7015) leaving for Bangkok."
Starting on May 30, Hefei Xinqiao International Airport, designed to handle a projected annual volume of 11 million passengers and 150,000 tons of cargo by 2020, will replace the Luogang Airport as Hefei's main airport, local media reported.
The new airport will begin its business with the arrival of a flight (MU7016) from Bangkok and the departure of two planes flying to Shanghai and Kunming, according to flight schedules.
