OREANDA-NEWS. In line with its philosophy to spread awareness about energy and resource conservation, Tata Power's Club Enerji, a nationwide movement spearheaded by school children, gained further momentum in the city of Ahmedabad through concerted efforts of these children for the third year in row.
In the year 2012-13, Tata Power Club Enerji sensitised over 178,400 citizens in Ahmedabad and through consistent efforts saved 330,000 units of electricity leading to savings of 310 tonnes of CO2 emissions, enough to light up 40 houses. Tata Power Club Enerji has sensitised children across 15 schools in Ahmedabad. For the last three years, cumulative savings stood at 1,097,547 units and the club sensitised 373,635 citizens.
The club has been active in Ahmedabad for over three years and has 1,554 Energy Champions, more than 2,154 Energy Ambassadors and 49 mini Tata Power Club Enerjis across the city this year. The energy saving programme has also been taken up as project work in various city schools. Through activities such as rallies and demonstrations conducted by the students during the year, the initiative has been a huge success in the city.
Speaking about the initiative, Anil Sardana, managing director, Tata Power, said, “We are proud of the achievements of these children and appreciate the support given to them by their teachers and principals. These students of Ahmedabad continue to spearhead the movement of energy and resource conservation and have achieved a great milestone, and we hope they continue the good work in the years to come. We have also launched a new module on moral and civic values and hope that it is perpetuated with the same zeal and enthusiasm.”
