OREANDA-NEWS. April 30, 2013. IBC in cooperation with Public Association “Public-private partnership support” (PPPS) held a press-cafe to highlight the result of the analysis of export promotion policies in previous national economic development strategies in Kyrgyzstan.

The series of press-cafe is planned in the framework of the project titled “Towards designing a roadmap for a 20-year national economic development strategy in Kyrgyzstan” and funded by USAID Local Development Program. IBC and PPPS are responsible for the implementation of the project.

“It is first out of five press meetings planned in the course of the project. The topic of today’s meeting is export promotion. It is important for us to provide journalists with a platform where they can obtain first-hand information from the respective experts and entrepreneurs in an informal setting” said Aktilek Tungatarov, IBC Executive Director and the Project manager of the given initiative.

Renowned experts and representatives of Ministry of Economy shared their views on export promotion policy with journalists from leading mass media, and the entrepreneurs told them about problems they face while exporting products.

“In more than 20 years of its independence, Kyrgyzstan has adopted a significant number of programs aimed are the economic development as a whole and sectoral development. However, data on GDP growth shows little impact of those policies on the actual state of the economy.  All strategies of economic development suggested supporting domestic producers but the implementation of these policies were not clear,” said the consortium fiscal policy expert Rafkhat Hasanov. “NSSD supposes to realize export development issues under the Export Development Strategy, which is currently being finalized,” added Hasanov.

All strategies had poorly elaborated mechanism of monitoring the implementation; in fact it was formal and didn’t include quality assessment of measures.

Representatives of USAID Local development Program, Ministry of Economy, State Customs Service, Association of textile industry enterprises of the Kyrgyz Republic “Souyztextile”, “Pamir” LLC, and  Salt Manufacturers Association participated in the press-cafe.
