OREANDA-NEWS. April 29, 2013. The Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry /MAIA/ launched the Competitive Agriculture Project, which will be carried out until 2017.

Attending the launching ceremony, acting Agriculture Minister Vasile Bumacov specified that the project was mean to support the government’s reform agenda in the agriculture area. Bumacov said that the reforms would be priority implemented in order to increase the safety and the quality of the agro-food products and to consolidate the creation of the farmers’ groups.

The project will also provide assistance to farmers using no-till equipment, a modern agricultural technology which becomes more popular among the Moldovan farmers. Bumacov said that he was waiting for the parliament to adopt a range of amendments, which would allow creating farmers’ groups on modern principles.

The project’s total cost amounts to 27.4 million dollars. As many as 18 million dollars are provided by the World Bank, 4.4 million dollars by the Global Environment Fund, three millions by the Swedish government and Moldovan government’s contribution is of two million dollars. The Agriculture and the Environment Ministries are responsible for the project’s implementation.
