OREANDA-NEWS. April 25, 2013. People wear St. George Ribbons to show their gratitude to veterans of the Great Patriotic War for their bravery and valour, as well as to remember those who died in one of the most terrible wars of the past century.

Since 2008, Sakhalin Energy acts as a partner of all-Russia St. George Ribbon campaign on Sakhalin Island.

For the last 5 years more than 200,000 ribbons were distributed in the oblast with the company’s help. This year 68,000 ribbons were delivered to the island.

On 22 April, the “Sakhalin Remembrance Ribbon Day” campaign takes its start from Norhtern town of Okha and Southern town of Nevelsk. From there it will pass to other towns and will go through 15 Sakhalin districts (Uglegorsk, Tomarinsk, Kholmsk, Nevelsk, Aniva, Okha, Nogliki, Alexandrovsk-Sakhalinsky, Tymovskoye, Smirnykh, Poronaysk, Makarov, Dolinsk and Korsakov) and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

The remembrance ceremonies will be held in all districts with participation of local talent groups. A mobile photo exhibition depicting Sakhalin Island Great Patriotic War veterans will be also presented in every town. During the celebrations all participants will receive St. George Ribbons, and other citizens of all visited districts will be able to get their ribbons at the Sakhalin Energy Information Centers, which are based in district libraries. The local veteran councils will receive memorable gifts from the company.

St. George Ribbon campaign will end with the concert on 30 April at 5 pm at the plaza in front of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Government House. By tradition the company will donate 300,000 Rubles to the Yuzhno- Sakhalinsk Veteran’s Council.
