OREANDA-NEWS.  In its Sustainability Report for fiscal 2012 just published today, Siemens draws a positive conclusion: "We've succeeded in fully achieving our sustainability goals. We've increased our green revenue to EUR 33 billion while setting an example of sustainability and winning some 1,000 suppliers to date for our energy efficiency program. For the first time in our history, we've also been named the world's most sustainable industrial company in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index 2012 – capturing, as Super Sector Leader, the top position across nine industry sectors," said Barbara Kux, member of the Managing Board and Chief Sustainability Officer of Siemens AG.

In 2012, Siemens also successfully positioned its Environmental Portfolio as a key business factor. Revenue from green products, which has grown three percentage points faster than the company's total revenue, now accounts for 42 percent of Siemens' total business. In fiscal 2012, green technologies from Siemens enabled customers to cut their greenhouse gas emissions by a total of 332 million tons – an amount equal to the total annual emissions of Berlin, Hong Kong, Jakarta, London, Melbourne, Moscow, New York, Sгo Paulo and Tokyo combined.

For the last few years, the company has also been reducing its own resource consumption. For example, Siemens increased its energy efficiency in fiscal 2012 by eight percent compared to 2010 while improving its efficiency in the area of waste production by six percent and in the area of CO2 emissions by 12 percent. Energy efficiency programs are already underway at more than 100 of the company's production facilities. New buildings and key existing structures are being rigorously optimized to improve sustainability. In addition, Siemens intends to obtain LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification – the international environmental building standard – for all its new buildings. The company's new headquarters complex, which is now under construction in Munich, will also set a new standard in this regard. Siemens is expanding its success across its entire supply chain. As part of its Energy Efficiency Program for Suppliers (EEP4S), more than 1,000 suppliers have assessed their energy efficiency to date, identifying average potential energy savings of about ten percent.

Peter Lцscher, President and CEO of Siemens AG, said, "During the last few years in particular, Siemens has established itself as a paragon of sustainability. I'd like to thank Ms. Kux and her team as well as all our employees for their efforts. We can be rightly proud of this achievement, because it benefits our business, our customers and society – and this is also being widely recognized outside the company." In 2012, Siemens was ranked No. 1 in two categories of the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index: Industrial Goods and Services, and Diversified Industrials. In the highly regarded Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), whose total assets of about USD 78 trillion are administered by some 650 institutional investors, Siemens again captured the top spot in fiscal 2012, scoring 98 out of a possible 100 points.
