OREANDA-NEWS. April 24, 2013. Scientists of Institute of scintillation materials of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine suggested an absolutely new ideology of the development of diagnostic direction of a system of nuclear medicine on the basis of wide use of more cheap specialized gamma cameras instead of universal multifunction diagnostic systems.

The suggested by Ukrainian specialists approach enables to significantly shorten base investments into the branch and to make nuclear medicine available for the masses. Rational character of this idea and effectiveness of its realization, even in the developed countries, were approved by specialists of the USA and the EU.

On financial support of the State Agency for Science, Innovations and Informatization in the framework of implementation of the state order for elaboration of up-to-date technologies the institute has created two specialized systems of radionuclide diagnostics: for scanning of whole body and for cardiologic researches.

The construction and technical parameters of both systems correspond to the modern level of similar systems of diagnostics from world producers, though they are fourfold cheaper.

The cost of research by the designed system is 20 times lower than by PET (positron emission tomography). Even in the USA the number of scanning by gamma cameras is tenfold more than by PET research.

The need of Ukraine is 300 similar systems which will enable to raise the showing which is used in the world to evaluate the development of nuclear medicine – the showing of research per 1000 persons a year – up to 20. This is the lowest limit of the European level (20-50).

Thus far, in Ukraine it is possible to organize production of 20 diagnostic systems a year and on conditions of a guaranteed order the volume of production can be increased up to 50 units a year.
