Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013 Earns Advanced Rating
OREANDA-NEWS. Kaspersky Lab announces that its Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013 has been awarded the highest Advanced+ rating by the respected AV-Comparatives independent testing laboratory, based on the results of the File Detection Test of Malicious Software conducted in March 2013.
AV-Comparatives’ test checked how effectively popular security products detect malicious files during standard computer scans with access to a stable Internet connection. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013 took part in the File Detection test along with 19 other antivirus solutions from leading vendors.
The products had to scan more than 136,610 malicious files, with Kaspersky Anti-Virus detecting 99.2% of all threats. In addition, when scanning the legitimate collection, the Kaspersky Lab solution returned just six false positives. The average for all the tested products exceeded 15. False positives were the main reason why rival products with similarly high detection rates did not receive the top Advanced+ grade. In real-life situations false positives can cause difficulties for users working with safe applications that are wrongly detected as malicious.
"The results of AV-Comparatives’ tests have once again proved that a high quality antivirus product must not only be able to detect as many threats as possible but also effectively determine which files and applications are safe. This is the only way to achieve the necessary balance between reliable protection and usability," says Oleg Ishanov, Director of Anti-Malware Research at Kaspersky Lab.
This is not the first time Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013 has been rated highly by the AV-Comparatives specialists. In October 2012 the product earned Advanced+ rating in a similar test. In November 2012 Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013 was awarded AV-Comparatives’ highest rating for Malware Removal. Throughout 2012, Kaspersky Lab products received a total of eight Advanced+ certificates.
