OREANDA-NEWS.  April 22, 2013. The transmission agreement was signed by the Ministry of Environment, the Apele Moldovei Agency, Millennium Challenge Moldova and the Associations of Irrigation Water Users from Criuleani and Lopatna.

According to the Environment Ministry, in 18 months, that is by 2015, Associations of Irrigation Water Users from Criuleani and Lopatna will be able to use and manage all irrigation facilities, including pump stations and lands adjoining irrigation stations. At present, irrigation systems in these regions are work partially. As a result of the rehabilitation, irrigated lands will widen from 50 ha to 509 ha in Lopatna and from 120 ha to 760 has in Criuleani.

According to Environment Minister Gheorghe Salaru, the final goal of the project is to rehabilitate at least 11 irrigation stations in Moldova to irrigate 15,000 hectares. Rehabilitation of irrigation systems of Moldova is one of the objectives of the Compact program, signed at the beginning of 2010 by the government of Moldova on the one hand and the Millennium Challenge Corporation on behalf of the USA government on the other one.
