OREANDA-NEWS. April 19, 2013. Domestic growers of fruit and vegetables to be given at least 50% of commercial spaces in agricultural markets of Moldova. This was decided by Cabinet ministers, who approved amendments to the Law on Inner Trade, proposed by MPs. Initially MPs proposed to allot farmers at least 20% of commercial spaces on the domestic agricultural markets.

However, Cabinet ministers found it possible to increase this share to 50% to ensure admittance of domestic growers to agricultural markets, encourage domestic growing and enhance competitiveness of domestic fruit and vegetables. Acting Premier Vladimir Filat proposed to add the list of beneficiaries with all producers of domestic foods, not only those who grow vegetable and fruit.

He doubted if in winter 50% of commercial spaces in the market may be in full occupied by growers of domestic fruit and vegetables and for the place not to stand empty invited to markets other farmers, who sell homemade dairy products and other foods.

Earlier, one of the lawmakers said domestic growers are experiencing great difficulties and are often debarred from local markets, where imported fruit and vegetables are usually sold. Instead, they have to sell their products on streets and at other inappropriate places.
