IENC Improves Reliability of Electricity Grids
OREANDA-NEWS. In 2006, OJSC IENC started assessing the reliability of electricity grids using the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), which measures the average outage duration for each customer served during the period in question, and the System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI), which measures the average number of interruptions that customers experienced during the period in question.
In the last few years, the SAIFI and SAIDI indicators have been following positive trends in the period from March through May, which is the most challenging time of year in terms of wind pressure. For instance, reports indicate that, while in 2006 the number of individuals who experienced emergency power outages totaled about 200,000, by 2012 this figure decreased to 45,000. Thus, the SAIFI indicator improved from 2.3 to 0.27, while SAIDI increased from 0.7 to 0.13.
Boris Karataev, CEO of OJSC Irkutsk Electronetwork Company: "The implementation of well-balanced long-term investment and maintenance and repair programs has enabled the company to significantly improve the reliability of electricity grids. We constantly take measures in this area. The higher-than-expected impact of climatic factors is always an important issue for us, as it always poses a big challenge."
