Ukrainian-Kuwaiti Economic Cooperation Commission Holds Meeting
OREANDA-NEWS. April 18, 2013. A Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko chaired a meeting of Ukrainian part of intergovernmental Ukrainian-Kuwaiti commission for economic, technical and trade cooperation.
“Cooperation of Ukraine with Kuwait is characterized by absence of any contradictions and mutual readiness of the parties to actively develop cooperation ties,” head of Ukrainian part of the commission K.Gryshchenko said starting the event.
The Vice Premier expressed assurance that the institute of intergovernmental commissions appeared an effective instrument for the promotion of economic interests of Ukraine abroad.
“Today it is crucial for us to transfer an active dialog with Kuwaiti partners which we were building step by step on the political level into the practical plane,” K.Gryshchenko underlined.
During the meeting the participants discussed practical steps which are to be taken to ensure preparation and holding of the Second session of intergovernmental Ukrainian-Kuwaiti commission, that is to take place in the capital of Kuwait – Kuwait City.
“Guided by economic interests of Ukraine, relations with Kuwait, which is one of the most solvent markets in the world, must be viewed as a weighty direction of foreign economic policy in the Middle East region and, in particular, in the states of the Persian Gulf. Kuwait is perspective for Ukrainian goods, however, achieved by now level of bilateral trade in goods and services do not correspond to economic potential of the two states,” the Vice Prime Minister underlined.
K.Gryshchenko views that main reason of low rates of development of trade and economic and investment cooperation appeared the lack of information about Ukrainian opportunities and needs, undeveloped contacts between business circles of the two states, passivity of national business structures. At the same time, among the most attractive for Kuwaiti investments remain agricultural, processing and food industry of Ukraine’s economics and also industrial cooperation in highly technological areas (aviation, space, machine building areas).
In this connection K.Gryshchenko drew attention of heads of ministries and departments who enter the intergovernmental commission to the need to hold more system and effective activity. “I ask all the members of Ukrainian part of the commission to mobilize and pay maximum efforts in order to ensure relevant and effective preparation of the joint session of the commission,” the Vice Prime Minister emphasized.
