Omani executives in Brazil

At the beginning of March, a delegation of Omani executives visited some of Vale’s operations in Brazil, in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo and Para. The purpose of their visit was to learn about best practices in social and cultural development and corporate volunteering, to be implemented in their country.

In Rio de Janeiro, the tour included a visit to the Botanical Garden, which is sponsored by our company. After this, the group went to Espirito Santo, where they visited Serra Knowledge Centre, an educational and sports development facility for young people that works with the Brasil Vale Ouro program. The centre was the thing that most caught the attention of the group’s members, who said they intended to replicate the program’s model in their country. The visit ended in Para, where the delegation took a tour of Carajas, the biggest iron ore mine in the world.

Vale in Oman

Vale’s main strategy in Oman is to be near its main consumer market, Asia. In 2009, our company paved the way to build Sohar Industrial Complex, which consists of a pelletizing plant capable of producing 9 million metric tons of iron ore pellets per year, a bulk terminal and a distribution centre with a capacity of 40 million metric tons. Opened in March 2012, the complex has received total investment of USD 1.25 billion.
