MPX Concludes Acquisition of Project TPP MC2 Nova Venecia
OREANDA-NEWS. MPX Energia concluded the acquisition of the entire capital of the project MC2 Nova Venecia, thermal power plant with installed capacity of 176 MW. The power plant, a partnership between MPX, the joint venture formed with E.ON SE and Petra Energia, received, on March 26, authorization from the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) for alteration of fuel and transference to the locality of the Parnaiba Thermoelectric Complex in Santo Antonio dos Lopes, in the state of Maranhao. In the Complex, fueled by the gas produced in the Parnaiba Basin, MPX currently builds 1,369 MW, including the endeavors Parnaiba I and Parnaiba II.
Project Nova Venecia commercialized energy in the A-5 New Energy Auction of 2008, in the form of Energy Commercialization Contracts in the Regulated Environment by Availability (CCEAR), in a total of an average 98 MW, at a price (Cost Benefit Rate – ICB) of BRL 189.9/MWh and fixed annual revenue of BRL 93.5 million (both values in the November 2012 reference date). The CCEARs are valid for 15 years, beginning in 2013.
MPX acquired energy in the free market in order to guarantee the energy supply contracts until the date of entry into commercial operation. The value paid for the entire capital of the project was equivalent to BRL 50 million, 35% of which paid by MPX, 35% paid by the joint venture formed with E.ON SE and 30% by Petra Energia.
The Parnaiba Thermal Power Complex, located in the municipality of Santo Antonio dos Lopes, in the state of Maranhao, is a pioneering endeavor that integrates the production of natural gas to energy generation, with a license to reach up to 3,722 MW of installed capacity. MPX invests more than BRL 2.6 billion in the implementation of phases 1 and 2, which will begin become operational in 2014. As a whole, the Complex has 1,556 MW contracted for up to 20 years. A partnership between MPX (70%) and Petra Energia (30%), the endeavor generates approximately 2,300 direct jobs, 80% coming from the local workforce. The plant is supplied by the gas produced by OGX and MPX in the Parnaiba Basin.
