OREANDA-NEWS. A farmer in Chaohu of East China's Anhui province was granted a patent on Monday for his extraction of anthocyanin.

Geng Zhaoxiang, who is engaged in agriculture but has a great interest in science, extracted anthocyanin, a pigment known to possess potent anticarcinogenic properties against several cancers, in 2009 after two years' experiments.

On April 8, the 45-year-old received a patent certificate for his success from the State Intellectual Property Office.

The extraction of anthocyanin has been viewed as a headache for scientists.
