OREANDA-NEWS. April 10, 2013. The launch of the new terminal will help the company to better serve its clients in the south of Moldova. In the past the delivery of cement from Lafarge plant in Rezina to the southern region was done by truck and to reach the south of Moldova the cement traveled over 200 kilometers. Now, with the opening of a terminal in Comrat, the bag cement will be transported by rail and stored there, being delivered to the local distributors and end users afterwards.

“With this terminal we will make sure that our products are available to all, all year long and in a simpler way. It is also a positive move from safety and environment standpoint since railway is a good solution for long distance transportation. ” - said Louis de Sambucy, General Manager of Lafarge Ciment (Moldova) SA. Lafarge has been present in Moldova since the acquisition of Rezina cement plant in 1999.

The company has invested into modernization of the plant over EUR 50 million. Currently, Lafarge employs 283 people in Rezina and in its office and its concrete laboratory in Chisinau.
