OREANDA-NEWS. April 10, 2013. Scandinavian Airlines SAS enters aviation summer season with more regular routes from Lithuania. SAS opens a a new direct route between Stockholm and Vilnius with the frequency of 6 weekly flights, as well as offers direct connection with Copenhagen: 19 times per week from Vilnius and 13 times per week from Palanga.

On April 1, 2013 SAS launches a new route between Stockholm and Vilnius. Flights to Swedish capital city will be operated 6 times per week, i.e. every day except Saturdays.

“Direct flight connections are highly important for the strengthening of ties between our two countries. Swedish capital companies have pointed out air connectivity as a key factor to further improving the climate for doing business here, so this is a very welcome step”, pointed out H. E. Ms. Cecilia Ruthstrom-Ruin, Ambassador of Sweden.

Ambassador of Sweden also mentioned that she sees a great potential for further developing cultural relations, as well as for increased cooperation in the areas of science and innovation. The new connection will facilitate all these contacts. She also hopes to see growing tourism flows in both directions.

“We have been operating in Lithuania for over 20 years, and during all these years we have been analysing the changes and demands within civil aviation industry in this country. After having launched direct flights from Stockholm to Vilnius, we will continue analysing the popularity of this route, and if we see an increased demand, we will increase the frequency of flights on this route”, noted Ruta Juciene, SAS General Manager Baltic States.

In Lithuania during the summer season SAS will be operating 19 weekly flights between Vilnius and Copenhagen and 13 weekly flights between Palanga and Copenhagen. After having launched a new route between Stockholm and Vilnius, SAS will be operating 38 weekly flights in Lithuania in total, and this will be the biggest ever number of SAS flights in this market.
