OREANDA-NEWS. April 08, 2013. During the farewell visit of Andrew Soper, Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis expressed gratitude for his outstanding contribution to strengthening the bilateral relations and conviction that the active dialogue will be continued.
 
During the meeting, V.Dombrovskis highlighted the issue regarding Latvia’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The Ambassador reaffirmed the support of the Great Britain to Latvia’s objective to become a member state of the OECD.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the first visit of Prime Minister of Great Britain David Cameron to Latvia that was organized in February. The Ambassador, on his turn, presented a letter of gratitude to the Prime Minister on the successful organization of the Northern Future Forum.

The officials also discussed the priority issues in the field of security, expressing readiness to continue the cooperation.

Indicators of trade between Latvia and Great Britain

According to the total turnover of trade in goods, Great Britain with EUR 450 million ranks the 11th among the foreign trade partners of Latvia. The total turnover trade in goods with Great Britain has increased by 11.9% if compared to 2011. The main export groups of Latvia are timber and timber products, metal and metal goods, precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals and metals. The major imports of Latvia are machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment, textiles, means of transport and products of chemical and allied industry.

The turnover of trade in services with Great Britain amounts to EUR 222.03 million. It has increased by 13.8% or EUR 26.88 million compared to respective period of 2011. The major export and import services if Latvia were transportation, tours and other services.
