OREANDA-NEWS. Pacific Telecommunication Chongqing Internet Data Center went live in the Liangjiang New Area Shuitu Cloud Computing Industrial Park. It is the first cloud computing IDC project settled down in Chongqing and also the first-completed project. The total investment of the project is USD 150 million. The center will house 40, 000 servers of which the data processing amount equals to that of all the servers throughout the whole city.

Pacific Telecommunication is the largest independent telecommunication service provider in Asia, while Chongqing is the fourth city to arrange "cloud computing", following Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Tianjin. Pacific Telecommunication Chongqing IDC, as a third-party neutral data center, can provide direct access points of other countries in the world through submarine cable resources. Its go-live puts an end to the history of Chongqing without high-grade data center and has a symbolic significance for Chongqing cloud computing industry to attract worldwide customers and promote the rapid industry development.

In accordance with the requirements of central government on accelerating the transformation of development mode and adjustment of industrial structure, Chongqing spares no effort in promoting the industrialization, urbanization and agricultural modernization driven by informationization, establishes a future-oriented "cloud plan" of which the core task is to build a cloud computing center and auxiliary industrial base so as to form a scale of 300,000 servers in 2015 and a scale of one million servers in 2020. It is a milestone for Pacific Telecommunication Chongqing Data Center to become the first-completed cloud computing IDC in Chongqing, which will serve as a strong impetus for the construction of national level offshore data processing center.

The president of Pacific Telecom Group indicated that the completed and functional Pacific Telecommunication Chongqing IDC will be integrated into the global network of Pacific Telecom so as to better satisfy the increasing demand of China on high-grade data, attract more and more Fortune Global 500 companies to locate in Chongqing and promote the development of Chongqing cloud computing industry.
