Sberbank CIB Strengthens Sberbank Merchant Banking
OREANDA-NEWS. Sberbank CIB, a leading investment company which is part of the Sberbank Group, announces the appointment of Jonathan Gillbanks as Managing Director of Sberbank Merchant Banking. Jonathan will be responsible for structuring and marketing funds for attracting external investment and will work with other members of the team on merchant banking deals, focusing specifically on TMT projects.
In addition Anton Gazizov joined the Sberbank Merchant Banking team as a Director. Anton will be responsible for attracting, structuring and carrying out mezzanine financing and private equity deals. Jonathan and Anton will both report to Oscar Ratsin, Head of Sberbank Merchant Banking, Managing Director. These appointments demonstrate Sberbank CIB’s desire to strengthen the Sberbank Merchant Banking team which was created in summer 2012 as part of the integration of Sberbank of Russia and Troika Dialog.
Jonathan Gillbanks has twenty-five years’ of experience in the financial sector. He joins Sberbank CIB from the Kazakh investment group Visor Holding where he held the position of Managing Director & Group CFO. His responsibilities included evaluating the performance of the group’s portfolio companies, financial reporting and managing the group’s structure. In addition he was responsible for managing transactions on behalf of the group’s companies which covered a wide range of sectors. From 2001 to 2010, Jonathan worked as a Managing Director at GMT Communications Partners, a British private equity fund. Prior to that, from 1998 to 2001, he held the positions of Vice President of Latin America Mergers and Acquisitions and Executive Director of Media & Telecoms Mergers and Acquisitions at Lehman Brothers’ New York and London offices, respectively. Jonathan began his career as a Senior Auditor at the London office of Ernst & Young.
Anton Gazizov joins Sberbank CIB from VTB Capital, where he was a Director and was responsible for structured deals that focused on private investment and debt financing. Prior to this he worked at QVT Financial LLC in London as an Investment Consultant. Previously he was Vice President at JNR (UK) limited and worked at the London offices of Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank.
These appointments are the latest in a number of senior hires as Sberbank CIB continues to strengthen its broad industry capabilities and enhance its position as market leader. Recent senior hires include Steven Weller as Head of FX Trading, Managing Director, Bill Beller as Head of Equity Options Trading, Robert Hagon as Co-Head of Equity Sales Trading, Managing Director, and Peter Holowka as Head of E-FX, Managing Director.
