In particular, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is going to allot 30 mln euros; the European Investment Bank is expected to assign 20 mln euros; 5 mln. euros are to be provided as a grant by the European Commission, Director of the Technical Department of the enterprise Alexandru Zaica said.

According to him, Rail Ways of Moldova’s stock includes 66 locomotives and lives of 61 of them are over. They are expected to be modernized to reduce diesel expenses by 30-50% and services costs by 130-150 thousand euros per unit a year. Czech company CZ-LOCO is considered a pacemaker in modernizing locomotives.

This company was visited by a Moldovan delegation in the framework of international Europe-Asia conference on railway transportation. Members of the delegation were informed about the Czech model of modernization of diesel locomotives and building of new ones.

Modernization of locomotives means re-equipment of Moldovan locomotive depots and training of highly skilled personnel.
