Uzbekistan Promotes Social Projects

A press conference dedicated to the work of the parliamentary committee on management of assets of the Public Fund for Support of NGOs and other civil society institutions in the Oly Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held at the National Press Center of Uzbekistan.
Detailed information on the results of the activity of the commission in 2012 and the priority tasks identified in the "Year of well-being and prosperity” State program was presented at the event, organized in cooperation with the Information Service of the Legislative Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for management of assets of the Public Fund for Support of NGOs and other civil society institutions under the Oly Majlis of Uzbekistan A. Saidov, director of the Public Fund for support and development of independent print media and news agencies of Uzbekistan A.Abdullaev, head of the Information service of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis O.Usarov and others noted that the proposed by President Islam Karimov Concept of further deepening democratic reforms and formation of civil society in the country marked a new and important stage in the development and effectiveness of non-profit organizations.
The Parliamentary Commission for the management of assets of the Public Fund for Support of NGOs and other civil society under the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan provides assistance in the form of state subsidies, grants, social orders in realizing a number of social projects by NGOs, aimed at creating a harmoniously developed generation, strengthening families, ensuring the interests of young people, women, people with disabilities, raising environmental awareness, preservation and increase of national values.
As a result of the consistent implementation of these projects in 2012, 80 training centers and educational courses were established. 4000 young men and women were educated into entrepreneurship. 1068 people gained employment after short-term courses, many new jobs were created.
This year, 7 billion soums will be allocated from the state budget to support the activities of public organizations, which is 16.6 percent more than the last year. All project and program applications submitted by civil society institutions will be supported on a competitive basis.
18 projects of 12 public organizations, directly involved in the implementation of the "Year of well-being and prosperity" State program and other social programs, will be supported as a state order, as well as those of various civil society institutions. These, basically, are projects providing targeted assistance to various segments of the population, further increasing the standard of living, employment, small business development and entrepreneurship, national handicraft, strengthening and expansion of social partnership between the NGOs and the government. The Public Fund is expected to hold five grant competitions. For these purposes 3 billion 280 million soums will be allocated.
