POSCO Realizes Concert with Multi-Cultural Families
OREANDA-NEWS. March 28, 2013. POSCO hosted a music concert on March 16th under the theme of `Empathizing Classic with Multi-cultural Families,` where violist Richard Yongjae O`Neill and the KBS Symphony Orchestra performed together delivering the air of spring to the audience.
POSCO invited 200 members of multi-cultural families to the music concert and prepared an opportunity for them to enjoy a cultural arts performance together, and `Multi-cultural Family Forum` committee members also visited and spent meaningful time to empathize with the multi-cultural families.
Featured violist Richard Yongjae O`Neill was adopted to the U.S. as a Korean War orphan and grew up in a multi-cultural family. He was able to succeed as a top violist despite discrimination from a young age with his never-ending efforts and remarkable talent, delivering a message of hope to multi-cultural family children who attended.
POSCO has been continuously interested and concerned with entering into a multi-cultural society and with multi-cultural families settling in Korea, and signed an MOU with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in 2010 to carry out multi-cultural family support activities.
Starting with the `Danuri Call Center,` established in 2011 to offer information and consultation on Korean life to immigrant wives and other immigrants, the Company entered into an agreement with the Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies Multi-cultural Education Center to support training immigrant wife lecturers and bilingual education for children of multi-cultural family.
Also, POSCO hired immigrant wives as baristas at the multi-cultural café in the POSCO Center, `Café Oasia,` as part of POSCO`s foundation support last January, was authorized as the `1st Social Cooperative` by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and held the official opening in February.
POSCO will proactively continue activities to support stable settlement of multi-cultural families in various aspects including social, economic, and cultural aspects, and will particularly focus on creating jobs for the socially marginalized such as immigrant wives.
