National Grid Announced Reaction to CCS Funding Announcement
OREANDA-NEWS. Reacting to the DECC announcement, Jim Ward, National Grid’s Head of CCS said
“We’re delighted at the support for the White Rose project. Power stations and industry in the Humber area produce around 15% of the country’s carbon dioxide emissions, so the decarbonisation of this cluster would bring considerable benefits.
“National Grid sees CCS as an important tool in reducing emissions from the power sector and maintaining fossil fuel generation in the energy mix. We bring our skills of operating safe and reliable networks to CCS as well as our ability to manage large infrastructure projects
“Successful development of this innovative technology will help ensure security of supply and help maintain an essential energy mix. We look forward to playing our part in that development.
“The proposed cluster approach could help deliver cost competitive low carbon power generation for consumers whilst decarbonising the UK’s fossil fuelled electricity generation and industrial sectors. This would provide a lasting legacy for the ongoing future deployment of CCS.”
