Baltic NPP Prepares for Concreting of Cooling Ponds' Foundations
OREANDA-NEWS. Preparatory works for the construction of hydraulic structures of the power unit's water supply utilities are performed by Holding's subsidiary – OJSC UAT.
This March the builders are working on the construction of the foundation of the spray pond at first power unit's of Baltic NPP. Its bedding already received nearly 1,105 cubic meters of concrete mixes. In total, preparation of the bedding used around 1,905 cubic meters of concrete.
Immediately after the completion of the preparatory phase, the builders will start construction of the building foundation, with the planned scope of almost 11,510 cubic meters of concrete. Construction of foundation for spray pond will continue in early April.
This construction task will be one of the most extensive building works at the site this season. It will comprise concreting works on four foundations for hydraulic units.

The project Baltic NPP involves the constructing two power units with a WWER reactor with an electrical power capacity of 1,150 MW, and heating capacity of 250 Gcal/hour each. The service life of Baltic NPP is 50 years, and of its core equipment – 60 years. The first power unit is due to be commissioned in 2016, the second – in 2018.
The power plant will be located in the north-eastern part of the Kaliningrad Region, approximately 15 km from the town of Neman. Construction manager of the project Baltic NPP is OJSC Concern Rosenergoatom. General contractor is OJSC NIAEP
