OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2013. In Ukraine it proves necessary to develop and introduce new standards of construction of roads. This was informed by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov after visiting the National Transport University (NTU).

“We have to elaborate new standards, new forms of road construction so that we could make new demands to builders during tenders. Researches of the transport university give chance to control quality of construction, road covering,” the head of Government stressed and added that the NTU was already developing such standards.

According to him, the Government intends to organize production of all necessary materials and equipment for road construction activities by national enterprises.

“We must create the base for construction of motor roads: quarries, plants for bitumen production, plants which will afford to strengthen covering, road-building equipment and appliances for control – it is a huge serious program,” Mykola Azarov emphasized.

He added that in 2013 the Government will increase financing of road construction and repair activities twofold.

At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers is considering a possibility to introduce automated systems to control the level of transport load. “When we opened our borders, a huge flow of heavy transport means gushed to our roads, but they were not prepared for such conditions. It caused significant ruining of roads. We have to separate certain directions for such heavy transport, to make these lines satisfactory for such conveyance activities, and with regards to other directions – to restrict traffic of heavy transport,” Mykola Azarov told and added, it is a commonplace practice in the world.
