Vegetable Prices Decreased by 21,1% in Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS. March 19, 2013. Today vegetable prices, compared with last year, have reduced by 21.1%, in particular, by 15.6% dropped the price for onions, by 13.3% prices fell for greenhouse tomatoes, by 12% for beet and by 8.5% decreased in value potatoes. This contributed to a high yield of vegetables and increase capacity to store them for a year. This was started by Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.
"The Ukrainians should be provided with vegetables of own production at most. Therefore, the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food pay special attention to this issue as one of the components of food security. Today in Ukraine weekly monitoring food prices in local wholesale and retail markets is being continued. And according to data as of last week, vegetable prices fell by 21.1% compared with the same date of the previous year," Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.
The Minister informed that by 15.6% the price of onions reduced (to 1.84 hryvnya/kg), by 13.3% became cheaper greenhouse tomatoes (up to 16.79 hryvnya/kg) and the price of carrots reduced by 1.1% - (up to 2.71 hryvnya/kg), by 12.5% reduced the price of beets (to 2.24 hryvnya/kg) and potatoes decreased in value by 8.5% (up to 1.82 hryvnya/kg).
"Production of vegetables is growing in Ukraine. Consequently, their consumption over the past two years has increased by 17%. However, increasing the amounts of storage capacity of vegetables," Mykola Prysyazhnyuk noted.
The Minister also said that thanks to the support of the state just last year 19 vegetable stores were commissioned, and it is 13 thousand tonnes of additional capacities. By 2015, capacities are expected to increase by another 550000 tonnes.
